{"id":191,"date":"2009-01-10T12:21:22","date_gmt":"2009-01-10T18:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philhassey.com\/blog\/?p=191"},"modified":"2009-01-10T12:21:22","modified_gmt":"2009-01-10T18:21:22","slug":"os-x-fails-at-synchronizing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philhassey.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/10\/os-x-fails-at-synchronizing\/","title":{"rendered":"OS X fails at synchronizing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I&#8217;m complaining .. the other big one I have is synchronizing our iPhoto and iTunes collections between two computers.<\/p>\n<p>I want to be able to say &#8220;I want these two computers to keep each other&#8217;s iPhoto and iTunes libraries in sync.&#8221; And have it do so.<\/p>\n<p>What I don&#8217;t want:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a shared disk. \u00a0This is pointless because these two machines may not be connected to the network, so they need to have local copies of stuff.<\/li>\n<li>Use rsync. \u00a0This is what I&#8217;m doing, but again, this is not how things should be. \u00a0This is 2009, things should be easier than breaking out cron and command line utilities to get things done. \u00a0Not only that, it only HALF solves the problem, since now we have to decide that one of the laptops is &#8220;the master&#8221; and the other only receives updates. \u00a0Lousy solution, but it&#8217;s the best I&#8217;ve got so far.<\/li>\n<li>Use some 3rd party utility. \u00a0This should be built in. \u00a0(From what I found, there were no real solutions out there anyways. \u00a0Just variations on the rsync theme. \u00a0So I figured I might as well use what I&#8217;m used to.)<\/li>\n<li>Excuses about how syncing is complicated. \u00a0Yeah, I know. \u00a0That&#8217;s why I want YOU to fix it, not me. \u00a0Really.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>So, c&#8217;mon people. \u00a0Let&#8217;s make computers that WORK.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While I&#8217;m complaining .. the other big one I have is synchronizing our iPhoto and iTunes collections between two computers.
